Printing Special: Tetra Pak Drypoint & Collagraph Printing | Sat 20 May | 12-4pm | £35 | 16+ yrs | Tutor Helena McGregor | Studio 3 & Print Room

Tetra Pak Drypoint & Collagraph Printing is the perfect way to make more environmentally friendly artwork, and recycle Tetra Paks such as milk and juice cartons!

Drypoint is a traditional technique used to engrave and scratch a surface creating an Intaglio plate, without using acids or acid resists.

Collagraph printing uses a variety of low-tech materials collaged together to create a printing plate, with an emphasis on texture.

The Printing Special: Tetra Pak Drypoint & Collagraph Printing workshop will explore a mixture of the two processes by cutting, scratching, and collaging Tetra Paks to create unique printing plates and limited edition prints.

What will the class cover and how will it be taught?

Initially, participants will explore the qualities of the Tetra Pak and the textures it can add to the print. Different mark-making methods will be investigated, such as cutting, scoring, and peeling into the layers of foil, plastic and card. Participants will create their own designs and learn how to ink and hand burnish their plate, explore colour mixing, and then learn how to use the printing press to create a print.

Who is it suitable for?

Tetra Pak Drypoint & Collagraph Printing is suitable for all abilities, everybody is welcome. Participants may never have tried printmaking before or they may wish to explore an alternative technique.

What do I need to bring?

Please bring an apron and/or wear clothes you do not mind getting dirty. Bring your glasses, if you need them.

You may wish to bring your own images to work from, these can be either black and white or colour. The tutor will supply a range of reference materials available to use.
