For those who have completed a beginners course or have a rudimentary knowledge of the language but want to start from basics. The emphasis will be on speaking but there will be practice in all the language skills.

Intermediate

Fridays 1.30 – 3.30pm | 2 October – 11 December | 10 weeks | £150 | Castle Street Centre, Kendal (no lesson 30 October)

For those with at least three years’ experience learning French, this course will be conversation-led through a wide range of activities in a friendly atmosphere. Some grammar points will be covered to help you understand the structure of the language. Topics will include everyday situations, and suggestions will be welcome.

Upper-Intermediate

Fridays 10.30am – 12.30pm | 2 October – 11 December | 10 weeks | £150 | Castle Street Centre, Kendal (no lesson 30 October)

​For those with at least five years’ experience of learning French in a formal setting or a French-speaking country, this course will emphasise the importance of using your French freely and creatively to discuss relevant topics, as well as helping consolidate your grammar in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

Italian Beginners

Tuesday 2-3.30pm | Castle Street Centre | £124 (n.b. this class is 90 mins long)

For complete beginners or those with a little knowledge. You will learn to get by in everyday holiday situations, so lots of practical language, underpinned by a grounding in basic grammar, so that you can start to put sentences together independently. The atmosphere will be fun and encouraging.

Italian Early Intermediate

Wednesday 12.30-2.30pm

If you have a good grasp of the basics and would like to build upon this, this is the course for you, You will revise and widen the range of everyday situations in which you are able to get by, and continue to improve your knowledge of basic grammar and vocabulary. The emphasis will be on communication, so please be prepared to have a go!

Italian Intermediate

Wednesday 10am-12pm

This class has more experience than Early Intermediate. If you want to get a firmer grip on grammar and sentence structure and use it more accurately in speaking, wish to build your confidence in your communicative skills and get a sense of more idiomatic language, this course should suit you. Language will be presented through a variety of topics and the emphasis will be on putting new language into spoken practice, whilst also giving you the opportunity to improve your listening, reading and writing skills. There will be lots of interaction with your classmates in a friendly atmosphere, with lots of good humour, so you need not to be afraid to try your Italian out!

Italian Improvers

Thursday 10.30am-12.30pm and Thursday 1.30–3.30pm

These 2 classes have been running for some time; the morning class for a year longer than the afternoon one. In both classes, we will continue to develop confidence in expressing ourselves in Italian, using a variety of topics and activities, which include discussion, presentations, group work, pair work and games. We will consolidate work on verb forms, pronouns, prepositions etc. and also continue to build upon our knowledge of idiom and vocabulary. The courses take place in a relaxed and light-hearted atmosphere with lots of mutual support and interactive tasks, so you can be confident that you will get lots of speaking and listening practice. You will also have the opportunity to practise your reading and writing skills

A course to develop your confidence in speaking which revises and expands aspects of German grammar and vocabulary. We include all basic language skills of reading, speaking, writing and listening. Suitable for those with an A-Level in German or an equivalent level of knowledge and experience. We use a course book from the Hueber Verlag : Sicher B2.2

German Conversation

A course to encourage you to read and discuss texts from varied media sources. We look at current affairs in German speaking countries and also include looking at aspects of culture and topics of your own choice. The main emphasis is on speaking but revision of aspects of grammar and vocabulary is included.

This course is for those people who are familiar with the past & future tenses, but more practice is needed. We will start to do more listening and reading exercises to widen your vocabulary and to enable you to express your own ideas and opinions. We will split the teaching time into listening exercises, conversation & games activities to develop your oral skills, and there will be some grammar explanations. We will work with grammar, reading & writing exercises at home.
