For complete beginners or those with a little knowledge, this course will enable you to communicate in French at a basic level in a range of everyday situations.

Intermediate

For those with at least three years’ experience learning French, this course will be conversation-led through a wide range of activities in a friendly atmosphere. Some grammar points will be covered to help you understand the structure of the language. Topics will include everyday situations, and suggestions will be welcome.

Upper-Intermediate

These courses are for students who can express themselves in the present, past and future with some fluency. The main emphasis is on speaking, but we also read, write and study grammar. The classes are run almost all in Frenc,h and students work in pairs, in small groups and all together.

These courses are for advanced students with a very good knowledge of spoken French who wish to develop their confidence in a fun and friendly environment. We read, listen to and discuss authentic documents from varied media sources. The main emphasis is on speaking, but the revision of aspects of grammar and vocabulary is included.

Italian Beginners

Tuesday 2-3.30pm, Castle Street Centre £66

For complete beginners or those with a little knowledge. You will learn to get by in everyday holiday situations, so lots of practical language, underpinned by a grounding in basic grammar, so that you can start to put sentences together independently. The atmosphere will be fun and encouraging.

Italian Lower Intermediate

Tuesday 4-6pm

This course is a continuation of Beginners Plus. We will start building fuller sentences and expressing ourselves more fully, in a wider variety of contexts. There will be plenty of opportunity to practise speaking and listening skills.

Italian Intermediate 1

Wednesday 10am-12pm

This class has more experience than Lower Intermediate. If you are at the stage where you feel you have a grasp of the basics, but really want to build your confidence in your communicative skills and get a sense of more idiomatic language, this course should suit you. Language will be presented in a variety of topics and the emphasis will be on putting new language into spoken practice, whilst also giving you the opportunity to improve your listening, reading and writing skills. There will be lots of interaction with your classmates in a friendly atmosphere, with lots of good humour, so you need not to be afraid to try your Italian out!

Italian  Beginners Plus

Wednesday 12.30-2.30pm

If you have completed a first year in Adult education or have an elementary knowledge of Italian, which you would like to build upon, this is the course for you, You will revise and widen the range of everyday situations in which you are able to get by, and continue to improve your knowledge of basic grammar and vocabulary. The emphasis will be on communication, so please be prepared to have a go!

Italian Improvers

Thursday 10.30am-12.30pm and Thursday 1.30–3.30pm

These 2 classes have been running for some time; the morning class for a year longer than the afternoon one. In both classes, we will continue to develop confidence in expressing ourselves in Italian, using a variety of topics and activities, which include discussion, presentations, group work, pair work and games. We will consolidate work on verb forms, pronouns, prepositions etc. and also continue to build upon our knowledge of idiom and vocabulary. The courses take place in a relaxed and light-hearted atmosphere with lots of mutual support and interactive tasks, so you can be confident that you will get lots of speaking and listening practice. You will also have the opportunity to practise your reading and writing skills

We use a course book from the Hueber Verlag : Sicher B2.1

German Conversation

A course to encourage you to read and discuss texts from varied media sources. We look at current affairs in German-speaking countries and also include looking at aspects of culture and topics of your own choice. The main emphasis is on speaking, but revision of aspects of grammar and vocabulary is included.

This course is for those people who are familiar with the past & future tenses, but more practice is needed. We will start to do more listening and reading exercises to widen your vocabulary and to enable you to express your own ideas and opinions. We will split the teaching time into listening exercises, conversation & games activities to develop your oral skills, and there will be some grammar explanations. We will work with grammar, reading & writing exercises at home.

Lower Intermediate Term 2

This course is suitable for participants who have completed Year 3. We will revise and consolidate grammar, but the main thing is speaking practice. We will read adapted Spanish newspaper articles to learn new vocabulary. The topics are varied and related to Spanish and international affairs. We will express and justify our own ideas regarding these topics covered in the articles. We will gradually listen to normal-speed conversations.

Upper Intermediate Term 2

This course is for those who can hold conversations in Spanish but want to feel more confident in their own abilities. You can give and justify your opinions and own ideas, and you can manipulate the language to express yourself.

We will look into the history, social events, cultural events, economic issues and politics of Spain & Latin America today.

This course is suitable for those who have either studied Spanish for more than 5/6 years, lived in Spain, or have GCSE or equivalent qualifications.

We are moving upwards to an A-level or B1 in the European language ladder.

Este curso es para aquellos que quieran concentrarse en temas de conversación, para aprender más sobre los aspectos históricos, culturales, políticos, sociales y económicos de la España de hoy. En clase haremos ejercicios de escuchar, hablar, leer textos y noticias actuales. En muchas ocasiones tendrás que dar tu opinión y justificarla.

Un aspecto importante es la gramática, al comienzo del curso los estudiantes y yo decidiremos aquellos puntos que pueden ser más interesantes o importantes. Intentaremos desarrollar tus competencias escritas con los deberes.
