9 Nov | 10.30-4.30pm | Tutor Chris Barnes | £60
Capture the delicate beauty of porcelain in our Christmas workshop where you can make stunning, light enhancing porcelain candleholders. They may be too beautiful to give away as gifts!
What will the course or workshop cover and how will it be taught?
A one-day workshop for creating beautiful translucent porcelain candle holders. Chris will guide you through the process of working with porcelain to bring out its finer qualities. Translucency is achieved by using thin sheets of porcelain which is then fired to a high temperature. By piercing, indentation and stretching the material we can make it fine enough to create luminous candle lamps, shades and holders.
Experience of working with clay is an advantage, but not essential. The class is run with a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. A creative approach to design and making is encouraged.
By the end of the workshop you will have made several porcelain candle lamps or candle holders. Formers for making patterns in the surface of the porcelain will be provided and we will be able to make our own.
The finished pieces are then dried and fired at The Brewery ready for collection two weeks after the workshop.
What do I need to bring with me?
Please bring an apron and/or wear old clothes. Bring a pen, notebook and your glasses, if you need them.
Are there any additional costs?
This workshop includes all materials and firing.
