This Introduction to Photographic Dark Room workshop is perfect for those with an interest in developing their own prints. Participants will learn the basic functions of a film camera, how to improve photographic compositions and understand the printing process, including photograms, shooting, developing, and printing photographs in the Brewery Arts Dark Room.
What will the class cover and how will it be taught?
This is a practical workshop consisting of time spent developing film and printing from negatives in the Dark Room. The class will cover how to use an analogue film camera, how to develop black and white film, and how to print contact sheets, test strips, and final prints in the Dark Room.
Who is it suitable for?
This workshop is suitable for beginners and those seeking a refresher to regain skills in Photographic Dark Room practice. The Dark Room capacity is limited to a small number to ensure individual attention is provided by the tutor.
What do I need to bring?
Please bring your own film camera. A starter pack including one roll of film and developing paper is included in the course fee. Additional materials can be purchased during the course, your tutor will advise on this.
About the tutor
Liam Collins is a local photographer with an interest in landscape, street and experimental photography. He is an award-winning artist whose work has been exhibited in solo and group shows both nationally and internationally.
