Advanced Monoprinting | Sat 6 Jul | 12-4pm | £45 | 16yrs+ | Tutor Caroline Stow | Print Room
This workshop will continue exploring the possibilities of painterly monotypes with the addition of dry point. Looking at the work of contemporary artists who use print as one element of mixed media work, we will print wet on wet using multiple plates to build up layered images.
What will the sessions cover and how will it be taught?
The emphasis is very much on practical individual experience with tutor-led demonstrations, discussion and example work which will support and guide you throughout.
Who is it suitable for?
Suitable for those who have completed the first workshop or who have some previous printing experience.
What do I need to bring?
Please note that this can be quite a messy process! We will be using oil-based inks and turpentine on A4 acrylic sheet, cleaning up with vegetable oil / Lincoln wash.
Please bring an apron and gloves. A selection of stiff brushes and inexpensive oil pastels would also be very useful. Your sketchbook or images to work from might be a good starting point but please come prepared to experiment!
Are there any additional costs?
No
About the tutor
Caroline Stow is a painter and printmaker based in Cumbria, whose work is rooted in an interest in ecology and our absolute reliance on the natural world. She makes extensive use of observational drawing as a basis for ideas, although many final images are quite abstract. She uses printmaking (etching, etched lino, monoprint and collagraph) to make and remake images, forming and dissolving connections across a picture plane. She is interested in making as an explorative process, which melds together materiality and slow thinking. Testing form, line, and colour intuitively, she will often spend several weeks developing and refining a series of images and constructing printing plates, before experimenting further with the mechanics of the printing process.
