Across the month, live music takes centre stage with everyone from Chesney Hawkes and EMF to Huey Morgan, plus folk favourites McGoldrick, McCusker & Doyle and jazz rhythms from Alligator Gumbo.

Chesney Hawkes

Chesney Hawkes became a pop icon with the mega-hit The One and Only. After a decade in LA, he’s back with his comeback album Living Arrows. Chesney has returned as a true national treasure.

Jazz Club: Alligator Gumbo (trio)

Our Jazz Club features the finest emerging jazz artists from across the UK. Alligator Gumbo are a vibrant 3-piece band celebrating the raw, improvised sound of New Orleans jazz from the roaring ’20s.

EMF

Formed in 1989, EMF exploded globally with Unbelievable and debut Schubert Dip. After a 20-year hiatus, the band fully reunited in 2020, releasing acclaimed albums Go Go Sapiens and The Beauty and the Chaos. 

McGoldrick, McCusker & Doyle

Key members of celebrated folk collective Transatlantic Sessions and legends in their own right, Michael McGoldrick, John McCusker and John Doyle are on the road again in 2026. They are bringing you their own blend of top-class folk songs, tunes and charming bonhomie.

Huey Morgan – The Fun Lovin’ Criminal: An Evening Of Music And Conversation

Huey Morgan is a dynamic, multi-talented frontman of the Fun Lovin’ Criminals, BBC Radio 6 host, and DJ. Best known for the hit Scooby Snacks. Now he’s touring solo with an intimate mix of music and chat, bringing fans up close with the charismatic Fun Lovin’ Criminal himself.

The Watch

Act Your Age Presents: The Outrun

Act Your Age is a community theatre group aimed at those over 60 to develop acting skills, including performing, directing and writing their own work.

Their performance follows a young woman who finds herself washed up back home on the Scottish archipelago of Orkney, trying to rebuild her life after a decade of addiction.

Brewery Poets Reading – March 2026

The Brewery Poets return for a thrutopian reading with Ilse Pedler, joined by Alice Willitts and Hilary Watson, sharing work from their forthcoming Dialect Press collection. Expect poetry, conversation, open mic sign-up on the door, and music from Demix.

We are celebrating King of Salford poetry and UK Slam Champion Kieren King’s poetry collection Spit & Sawdust, published by Flapjack Press. Kieren is the Great Northern Slam champion and four-time UK National Slam finalist.

Cinema

March is packed with unmissable cinema and live events – from Othello and National Theatre’s The Audience to Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man and Hoppers, alongside standout titles from the Japan Foundation Touring Film Programme.

We’re also welcoming Film Hub North’s short film showcase, Northern Exposure, bringing the best new shorts from across the region. It’s a chance to discover bold local filmmakers and connect with fellow cinema lovers, all under one roof.

And we’re thrilled to welcome the award-winning MINT Chinese Film Festival to Brewery Arts for its fourth edition (6–8 March). Celebrating Chinese and Asian cinema, the festival features curated screenings, filmmaker Q&As, workshops and vibrant celebrations across Kendal.

Creative Learning

Our Creative Learning Programme invites you to slow down, get creative, and connect with a vibrant mix of courses and workshops for all ages and abilities. Whether you’re a familiar face or trying something new, there’s something to spark your imagination this March.

Dive into hands-on workshops including Darkroom Magic: Family Workshop, Line Hatching with Hideyuki Sobue, and Alternative Darkroom Processes – perfect for experimenting, learning new skills and exploring your creativity.

Weekly movement classes are also running throughout March, with Get Moving for adults and Mini Movers for tots—perfect for building confidence, creativity, and connection through movement.

March brings fresh energy to our galleries, with two exhibitions continuing to spotlight bold, local talent and distinctive creative voices. We’re also in the final weeks of submissions for our annual Brewery Arts Open Exhibition 2026 – your chance to be part of a vibrant, community-led celebration of creativity across Cumbria.
