Alternative Darkroom Processes

Dark Room
Saturday 28th March 2026

12-4pm | 16+ yrs

Explore non-standard analogue photo printing techniques in this hands-on workshop, covering photograms, Cliché Verre, chemigrams, solarisation and double-exposure printing. Perfect for beginners and for photographers wanting to expand their darkroom practice.

What will the class cover and how will it be taught?

This practical workshop introduces a range of alternative techniques that expand traditional darkroom printing. We’ll demonstrate and practice photograms, Cliché Verre (contact printing etched glass as a negative), chemigrams/chemograms, solarisation and double exposures. Teaching mixes short demos with one-to-one tuition at the enlarger. Expect time to experiment on your own, chance results are part of the process. All paper, chemistry and basic materials are supplied.

Who is it suitable for?

Those looking to expand their darkroom skills or beginners who are interested in experimental processes. No prior darkroom experience required.

What do I need to bring?

Negatives to print from, 35mm or 120 film. If you do not have these we do have spares to help you create images.

Are there any additional costs?

No, all materials and chemicals are included in the course fee.
