Lela Harris
This spring, Brewery Arts presents Held, a solo exhibition by award-winning Kendal-based artist Lela Harris. Unfolding across fractured paper panels, the show focuses on the intimate dialogue between self and the landscape. Through fluid ink marks and layered washes, Harris explores landscapes not as static backdrops but as living spaces of connection and care.
At the heart of Held is a meditation on belonging: how the natural world can offer an anchor amidst personal change and a sense of place that asks for nothing in return. Harris’s practice—rooted in close observation and emotional resonance—invites viewers to pause within the rhythms of the earth, to feel the quiet reciprocity between human presence and the environment. Harris’s work suggests that to be “held” by the landscape is to find both solace and renewal, a reminder that we are inseparable from the ground beneath us.
