As the Summer is winding down, we’re gearing up for a jam-packed Autumn/Winter season here at Brewery Arts, with a calendar full of live music from around the world, award-winning comedy, inspiring literature and theatre events for all ages, cinema screenings that will transport you to other worlds, and of course our creative learning programme for the whole family.

YolanDa Brown – 29 Sep

A unique blend of jazz and reggae, saxophonist YolanDa Brown’s captivating live show is a mix of familiar tunes and original repertoire.

Afriquoi – 30 Sep

London based internationally-acclaimed music collective hit our stage for a big Saturday night of Afro-electronic rhythms and uplifting vibes.

HENGE – 21 Oct (including family matinee show)

Hailing from a galaxy far, far away, extraterrestrial sound voyagers HENGE land their musical spaceship in Kendal – plus a family friendly matinee show just for your little aliens!

Alvin Youngblood Hart – 12 Nov

Bob Dylan’s favourite blues guitarist! Straight from the US, this maestro of the blues guitar tears up the Malt Room.

Onipa – 2 Dec

The Afro-futurist collective bring their high energy blend of jazz, hip-hop and Afro-rhythms.

Pete Firman Pete Firman – 7 Oct

Magically Funny! Pete Firman brings his ‘TrikTok’ comedy magic show to our stage.

Ria Lina – 14 Oct

Comedy and science collide in ‘Riawakening’, the new show from scientist-come-comedian Ria Lina, named one of The Evening Standard’s ‘Hottest Comedians You Should Be Watching Now’.

Mark Steel – 20 Oct

Sony and Writers’ Guild Award-winning writer and comedian Mark Steel brings us ‘An evening and a little bit of a morning’ with his brand new hilarious show.

Paul Foot – 23 Nov

Following a sold-out Edinburgh Fringe run, multi-award-winning and trail-blazing comedian Paul Foot brings ‘Dissolve’ to Kendal.

Suzi Ruffell – 25 Oct

Suzi Ruffell’s brand new show is all about settling down (but not settling), becoming a mother (without becoming mumsy) and still worrying about everything!

Victoria Melody

Victoria Melody – 11 Oct

Selected as one of the best shows to see at the Edinburgh Fringe by Time Out, The Times and The Stage, ‘Head Set’ is the chronicle of Victoria Melody’s journey so far – a bonkers, hilarious and galvanising celebration of becoming your authentic self.

Tin Man – 27 Oct

The world of Oz has captured the imaginations of people of all ages for generations. But have you ever wondered about the story of the man made entirely of tin, and his quest for a heart?

The Gingerbread Man – 14-24 Dec

Imagine being born in an oven and the first person you meet wants to dunk you in his tea…

Presented by the wonderful Stuff and Nonsense Theatre Company, the 2023 Brewery Arts Christmas Show follows the adventures of the deliciously smelling Gingerbread Man, who finds his feet fast and sets off on the journey of a lifetime.

Stage on Screen: A Little Life – 28 Sep – 1 Oct

Filmed live at the Savoy Theatre during its West End run, this record-breaking and beautifully acted production of the million-copy bestseller by Hanya Yanagihara comes to the big screen for a limited time only.

Another Fine Mess! Laurel & Hardy Silent Shorts with live score and Q&A – 6 Oct

Three silent films brought to life with a live improvised accompaniment, played on the Brewery’s Steinway Piano by Jonny Best and Adam Fairhill.

The Cat and the Canary (1927) with live score – 2 Nov

Join us for a special screening of this classic horror-comedy from celebrated German director Paul Leni, accompanied by a live score played by Tony Judge on the Brewery’s Steinway Piano.

Creative Learning

Family Friday

Clay Club – 1 Nov – 6 Dec

Gain confidence in working with clay and learn how to model, glaze, throw and create different structures and forms during these fun and informal workshops for young people. 

Advanced Artseen – 1 Nov – 6 Dec

Artseen is the perfect course for young creatives wanting to take your art practice to the next level. This 5-week course is led by Sophie Martin and participants will also work with guest tutors to explore a range of mediums – including life drawing, painting, drawing, and more.

Film Crew – 20 Sep – 6 Dec

Brewery Film Crew is perfect for young people who have always wanted to star on the big screen or have always wanted to be a director, cinematographer, or scriptwriter!

Family Fridays

A series of fun, festive and exploration-focused workshops which focus on different areas of artistic practice, from making Christmas plates to festive ceramic baubles!
