Explore the endless possibilities of paper, wire and stitch! Learn how to colour, paint and wax different papers creating a variety of grounds using inks, dyes and pigments. Experiment with wire, stitch and heat techniques to create a variety of embellished and textured surfaces.

What will the course or workshop cover and how will it be taught?

During the course Priscilla will take you on a journey of discovery, experimenting and exploring the endless possibilities of working with a lots of different of materials.
The aim of this course is to explore using a mixed media approach enabling your creativity to flow in a variety of new and exciting ways.

You will explore how to colour, paint and wax papers creating a variety of grounds to develop from 2D into 3D using wire, stitch and heat techniques to create a variety of textured surfaces producing a finished piece or range of experimental surfaces.

  • A small collection of papers
  • Pencil
  • Apron
  • Old scissors or wire cutters
  • Scissors
  • Pliers
  • Machine and hand sewing threads
  • Acrylic inks and paints
  • Paint Brushes
  • Craft wire
  • Reading Glasses if needed

About the tutor

Priscilla’s practice is rooted in contemporary textiles but encompasses a broad range of materials, processes and techniques. Her work explores themes relating to identity, memory and nostalgia drawing inspiration from her collections of found objects, literature and film.

Priscilla has over 20 years of teaching experience working in Higher Education lecturing in several Fashion and Textile Departments including the University of Salford and University of Cumbria. She currently tutors for the University of Creative Arts in Farnham through their partner OCA, and runs independent workshops for schools, colleges and galleries.
