Tutor Karen Lester | Fee £160 | 10 weeks
Respond to the colours and forms of the winter landscape through drawing, painting and printing at the wonderful location of Footprint, Windermere.
This is a course for those who love nature and who wish to explore drawing further with a wide range of media.
What will the course or workshop cover and how will it be taught?
Draw from observation with a range of materials and media. This will include working directly from and with found materials as well as investigating ways to incorporate these into your artwork. Capture the feel of the cold season with its low light and colours.
- Develop observational drawing skills further
- Consider ways to mute colour using watercolour
- Use printmaking techniques of monoprinting and drypoint for image making
- Experiment with natural materials to create drawings using twigs and found items
- Look at ways to incorporate materials into art work using watercolour paint
We will aim to go out and about for parts of the sessions (depending on the weather!) to draw directly from nature in the wooded grounds as well as from collected materials for study indoors.
The emphasis is very much on practical individual experience with tutor led demonstrations, discussion, example work and handouts which will support and guide you throughout.
What do I need to bring with me?
Materials. For the first week, we will explore the grounds at Footprint and the minimum suggested materials are:
- Pencils, ideally soft pencils, from the B range
- Charcoal – willow
- Cartridge paper, A3 size minimum or sketch book
- Masking tape
- Board / card to rest paper on
- Rubber and sharpener.
The tutor will advise further on materials at the first class. Subsequent classes will involve watercolour painting, drawing with ink, some pastel and printmaking techniques, (with and without a printing press).
You may also wish to bring an apron or old shirt to protect your clothes if using messy materials such as charcoal.
Tea and coffee are provided.
Please dress appropriately for the weather and bring a pen, notebook and your glasses, if you need them.
Are there any additional costs?
