Discover… Pottery Throwing | Sat 3 Feb | Sat 2 Mar | 11.15am-12.45pm | 1.30-3pm | 3.30-5pm | £48pp per session | 18+ yrs | Tutor Chris Barnes | Studio 2
Discover… Pottery Throwing is a fun and intensive workshop for adults which concentrates on improving the throwing technique on the potter’s wheel and is suitable for any ability, from complete beginners to those looking to improve existing pottery skills.
What will the workshop cover and how will it be taught?
The maximum capacity per session is four participants, ensuring tailored help and instruction designed to generally improve throwing technique individually, focussing on areas specifically chosen by each student.
Centring clay, improving cylinder height, bowl technique, throwing plates, making galleries and lids, and throwing bellied forms are all possible subjects of focus.
The emphasis of the workshop is on practice rather than finishing work, but students can choose one piece to be fired, glazed, and collected at a later date, usually 4-6 weeks after the session.
Chris will share his successful approaches and techniques to throwing larger and lighter pots, and mastering the all-important skill of centring of clay on the wheel.
All tools, equipment and clay are included and at the end of the session choose one piece to be fired, glazed, and collected at a later date (work must be clearly identified with the maker’s initials)
What do I need to bring with me?
Please bring a clean apron and/or wear old but clean clothes. Bring a pen, notebook and your glasses, if you need them. It is advisable to keep fingernails short and trimmed when working with clay.
