Our flagship youth theatre company is designed for young people who are passionate about theatre and ready to take their performance skills to the next level. Building on the skills and confidence developed in the 11–14 group, participants work as an ambitious ensemble to explore advanced acting techniques, devise original work and perform challenging scripts while developing a deeper understanding of professional theatre-making.
Alongside regular productions and performance opportunities, members may have the chance to take part in prestigious projects such as the National Theatre Connections Festival. This is a supportive, inspiring company for committed young performers who want to challenge themselves, collaborate creatively and produce exceptional theatre—while still having plenty of fun.

What do I need to bring with me?
Please come in comfortable clothes that you can move in and bring your own water. You will be given your own script to look after and bring to each session.

Connections is the National Theatre’s annual, nationwide youth theatre festival, celebrating the creativity and talent of young people across the UK.
BYT Summer Showcase | Summer Term
Perform alongside all BYT groups on a professional stage at Brewery Arts, complete with lighting, sound, set, costume and an audience.

This course will be held in Studio 1. There are no sessions during half term 26-30 October & 16-20 November.
About the Tutor
BYT sessions are facilitated and led by Claire Williams and guest facilitators.
Claire is a theatre and arts professional who specialises in community and family-led programming, producing and facilitation with training and qualifications in both community delivery and theatre. She is well known to our young people as our previous Learning and Engagement Manager. She has been leading the Youth Theatre since September 2023.
She’s been facilitating Youth Theatres and Young Companies for around 15 years including work for and with Pound Arts Wiltshire, Everyman Theatre Cheltenham, Bath Festivals & Wiltshire Creative (Salisbury Playhouse / Art Centre). This is alongside being an active freelance programmer, producer and facilitator for theatres and mixed arts organisations nationwide.
She is particularly passionate about art and theatre in unusual and public spaces. Her outdoor theatre and live installation work have been presented in spaces nationally. This includes work for and with The National Trust, Larmer Tree, Greenman, End of the Road, Just So, Lunar, Coro, Cornbury, Wychwood and Blue Sky. Her practice has been supported by Outdoor Arts UK and Arts Council England.
