1 Oct Session
This term, our Artseen groups will also have the incredible opportunity to work for a few days with Kendal-based artist, Lela Harris. Lela is an Internationally acclaimed artist and book illustrator whose transcendent, empathic work explores themes of identity and belonging.
Her artistic response and contribution to research on the history of Black Lancastrians helped bring to light some necessary and important truths about the history of the local slave trade.
Lela will work with the children to create a sensitive and beautifully expressive exhibition about an African boy who escaped a life of slavery in Heysham in the 18th Century. During these expressive mixed media art workshops, children will learn the skills to be portrait drawing detectives! They will use colour and shape clues to help them create their own powerful portraits to bring history to life. The children will be able to exhibit their work in our foyer gallery for the whole of October.
