Brewery Arts’ Creative Writing class is a forum for writers of all sorts to share work, explore prompts and develop their ideas. Using a combination of peer feedback, in-class activities, word games and weekly homework tasks, these sessions encourage a fresh, creative approach to the writing process.
Over the course of 10 weeks, this class will encourage a fresh, creative and experimental approach to writing. It will combine a range of group activities, writing prompts, peer feedback, discussion and analysis. Each session will focus on a particular theme, topic, technique or tool – so whether you’re working in poetry, prose, drama, screenplay or performance, the prompts and activities are a space to play with writing formats and push your imagination.
The whole class will complete weekly writing tasks and review these as a group, providing a safe and supportive space to gain feedback on your work. Along the way, we’ll also explore the broader creative process and the value of writing.
This course is open to all, whether emerging, returning or established. Students bring a range of styles, experiences and interests to the sessions. It is a safe space to develop your ideas.

Notebooks, pens and pencils, an open mind, lots of curiosity.

This course will be held in the Warehouse. There are no sessions during half term 26-30 October & 16-20 November.
About the Tutor
Simon Sylvester is a writer, traditional storyteller, filmmaker, teacher and occasional poet. He works on everything from pub quizzes to podcasts by way of short films, magazine articles, site-specific installations and documentary voiceovers. His short stories have been published in Dark Mountain, Gutter, New Writing Scotland and many more. His debut novel The Visitors won the Guardian’s Not The Booker prize.
