This course will help develop guitar playing skills such as chord playing, strumming and picking techniques, rhythm reading and improvising.

The course will also cover some basic aspects of general music theory.

What will the course or workshop cover and how will it be taught?

Using tutor demonstration, video and audio examples, one to one and small group
coaching, by the end of the course you will:

  • Know a range of chords and how they are constructed
  • Have the ability to read and play rhythm patterns and employ a range of strumming/picking styles
  • Have knowledge of basic music theory to assist with improvisation and soloing

What do I need to bring with me?

Please bring a guitar, a pen, a notebook and your glasses, if you need them.

About the tutor

Keith Redfern has taught guitar for many years from beginners to more advanced learners. He plays acoustic and electric guitar and works as a freelance musician, tutor and music leader. Alongside teaching in adult education, he works in schools and on music projects around the area.
