Printmakers Takeover | 7 October – 5 November | Foyer Gallery and Sugar Store Gallery | Tue – Sat, 11am-5pm | Free
The Printmakers Takeover is an exhibition celebrating printmaking at Brewery Arts. The show highlights the work of Robert Finch and Dave Sharps, who have been working together in the Brewery arts Printroom over the last five years. Robert and Dave have explored a variety of printmaking techniques, and their work demonstrates contrasting approaches to the art of printmaking.
Dave Sharps
Dave moved to Cumbria eight years ago after retiring from a career in teaching art. He has since established himself as a local artist and regularly exhibits with Green Door Artists and Cumbria Printmakers. Recently he has exhibited at Print at the Priory at Lanercost Priory and was featured in the June 2022 edition of Cumbria Magazine.
His work ranges from representational to abstract and is inspired by the beautiful landscapes of Cumbria and the Scottish Isles, exploring the experience of walking the fells, the valleys, and along the coast. Dave uses a variety of printmaking techniques to depict the dramatic shifts in light, mood and weather he observes in the landscape, working mainly from sketches and his own photos.
Robert Finch
Robert has a background in architecture which add to his printmaking style characterised by precise lines and shapes. He has explored various printing techniques, but lino printing remains his primary method, using it to respond to the world around him including still life and the natural and urban environment.
The majority of Robert’s printing has been done in the Brewery Arts Printroom, with a number of prints included in the book; Through the Locking Glass. He exhibits regularly with Green Door Artists, Cumbria Printmakers and Kendal Arts Society, and has also exhibited at The Great Print Exhibition at Rheged, Printfest Fringe, and Lakeland Artists Exhibition at Grasmere.
