Learn how to create your own professional drum lampshade in this enjoyable hands-on workshop led by Rachel Cabble of Cable & Blake, a Lake District textile studio specialising in Herdwick wool fabrics.
Suitable for complete beginners, this workshop will guide participants through the process of making a professionally finished drum lampshade using traditional techniques and specialist materials. Rachel will share practical tips, tricks and industry knowledge gained through years of designing and producing bespoke lampshades and textiles.
By the end of the session, participants will have completed a beautiful handmade lampshade and gained the confidence and skills to continue making lampshades at home.
Participants will make a 30cm Drum Lampshade

What do I need to bring with me?
- 0.5 metres of suitable fabric
Alternatively, participants can purchase 0.5 metres of Cable & Blake’s distinctive Herdwick wool fabric before or during the workshop.

- Lampshade making kit
- Lampshade rings
- Self-adhesive lampshade panel
- Specialist lampshade tools
- Full tuition and guidance
The cost of the lampshade kit is £18.95 and is already included in the overall workshop price.

About the tutor
Rachel Cabble is an experienced upholsterer, textile designer and tutor with over 11 years’ experience in traditional and modern upholstery. Trained by the Association of Master Upholsterers & Soft Furnishers (AMUSF), she previously taught upholstery and lampshade making at the Brewery Arts Centre. Rachel is also the Creative Director of Cable & Blake, where she has pioneered the creation of sustainable Herdwick wool tweeds inspired by the Lake District. Passionate about traditional craftsmanship, she loves sharing her skills and helping others create beautiful upholstered furniture and bespoke lampshades in relaxed, supportive workshops suitable for beginners and experienced makers alike.
