Embroidery and Fibre Arts for Beginners is an 4-week course delivered by Kendal-based Fibre & Textile Artist, Lana Grindley, who will introduce participants to embroidery, needle felting, 3D embroidery, and painting with fibres. The aim of this course is to master the basics of embroidery and work with fibre to create wonderful pieces of art.

What will the class cover and how will it be taught?

The class will explore basic mark-making with embroidery thread, and an introduction to simple embroidering techniques. Participants will then learn what felting is, and how to use it in producing fibre arts. Incorporating the first two techniques, skills will be developed further to create 3D fibre art, before finally introducing paint and embroidery. Following the successful completion of each skill, participants will decide which techniques they enjoyed the most and want to use in creating a final piece suitable for their home.

This course is suitable for anybody interested in Embroidery and Fibre Arts and is specially tailored for beginners.

About the tutor

Lana Grindley

Lana Grindley is a freelance, Kendal-based, community artist who founded Love Art Workshops in 2015. With her extensive knowledge and experience, Lana delivers creative workshops as a means of providing community cohesion, social engagement, and a platform for people to develop their own creative practices. Lana’s passion is creating opportunities for communities to come together and have access to the arts. She works directly with Charities, Festivals, Events, Schools and Funding bodies and leads Love Art Workshops, creating bespoke and meaningful experiences for groups across the North West.

Lana has recently transformed her inner passion into a reality, becoming an up-and-coming fibre artist exploring themes of female identity, sustainability, and empowering women through vibrant textiles.
