Art In The Bar is a relaxed evening of making, drawing, and creating at the Brewery Restaurant. Whether you’ve not picked up a pencil or paintbrush since school or are a regular sketcher and maker, everyone is welcome! There will be an expert artist tutor to guide you.
This is, above all, about having fun, being creative and sociable. Bring a group of friends or just yourself, everyone is welcome!
The session on 2 July will be run by Claire Philpott.
Collage making with Claire Philpott
Starting with some quick initial exercises playing around with text and fonts to make simple abstract designs in the style of Cecil Touchon, you will then explore photomontage and portrait or landscape collage in the styles of Benjamin West, and/or Mickalene Thomas. Mickalene Thomas overlays collage with simplified lines using gems – a nod to Claire’s own practice, as seen in ‘The Remarkable Nature of Things’ exhibition at Brewery Arts in Spring 2025.
