Join us for a special screening of The Cost of Growth, followed by an in-depth panel discussion exploring some of the most urgent questions around sustainability, justice, and our economic system.
On Wednesday 22 April at 7pm this powerful and thought-provoking documentary, challenges Europe’s dominant story of economic growth by uncovering the extractive systems behind it – and the communities that pay the price.

Spanning Serbia, Italy, and Sápmi, The Cost of Growth connects local struggles to global movements for environmental and social justice. Along the way, we see how communities are resisting extraction, building solidarity, and exposing the often hidden impacts of modern economic systems.
After the film, we’ll be joined by a panel of leading voices in sustainability and environmental politics:
- Mike Berners-Lee – Founder and Director of Small World Consulting and Professor at Lancaster University, bringing decades of expertise on climate change and systemic solutions.
- Dr Jake Ainscough – Lecturer in Environmental Politics at the University of Manchester, exploring how societies can transition fairly to low-carbon futures.
- Kate Rawles – Environmental campaigner and adventurer, using long-distance journeys to highlight biodiversity loss and the realities of extractivism.
- Lena Hartog – Writer and producer of The Cost of Growth, joining us online to share insights into the film and its global context.

Join us for an evening of film and conversation that gets to the heart of one of the defining issues of our time.
