QES Students to Support Fergus McCreadie Trio

Published on 29th April 2024

We are delighted to announce that Radical Steps, a group of young musicians from Queen Elizabeth School in Kirkby Lonsdale will be supporting Fergus McCreadie at Brewery Arts on Friday 10 May.

Contemporary jazz, Scottish pianist and composer Fergus McCreadie has blazed his own trail and is one of the most exciting jazz pianists on the world stage today.

Fergus’s 2022 album, Forest Floor, catapulted him into the international spotlight with instant critical acclaim and earned him a Mercury Prize shortlist nomination, the 2022 Jazz FM Instrumentalist of the Year Award as well as the 2022 Scottish Album of the Year Award.

The 2023-24 season is one of increasingly ambitious and innovative projects for Fergus and his trio, with international dates as well as the release of his fourth album this Spring.

Fergus is also a 2022-24 BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist – the only non-classical artist in the current cohort.

Fergus will be joined by David Bowden (bass) and Stephen Henderson (drums) whilst he plays the Brewery Arts Steinway grand piano for an unmissable performance.

Radical Steps, a salsa band from Queen Elizabeth School, Kirkby Lonsdale are delighted to be playing at Brewery Arts, Kendal. The original band was set up about five years ago and specialise in Latin music, particularly classic salsa numbers, as well as writing their own Latin-inspired numbers.

Their performance will include two original compositions and the band are extremely excited to be performing alongside Fergus.

The band last appeared at Brewery Arts supporting Cuban superstar Roberto Fonseca and two of this event’s line-up appeared with Yolanda Brown and her band earlier in 2023.

Tickets for this exciting event can be purchased here.
