Critically acclaimed Scottish pianist Fergus McCreadie delves into the essence of water with music from his new album ‘Stream’

In the dynamic landscape of contemporary jazz, Scottish pianist and composer Fergus McCreadie has carved a remarkable niche. Since 2021 his career has skyrocketed, propelled him into the international limelight with two acclaimed releases: his debut album Edition Records, “Cairn” (2021), set the stage for a journey deeply rooted in natural themes, while “Forest Floor” (2022) was shortlisted for the Mercury Prize and clinching Scottish Album of the Year – the first ever Scottish jazz album to do so.

McCreadie’s latest venture, “Stream,” continues this intriguing exploration, this time delving into the essence of water. Accompanied by his long-standing comrades David Bowden (double bass) and Stephen Henderson (drums), Fergus’s music flows through the rich landscapes of Scottish folklore and the sophisticated avenues of contemporary jazz, blending them seamlessly.

Fergus McCreadie is a current BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist.

For this live trio performance, Fergus is joined by David Bowden (bass) and Stephen Henderson (drums).

Fergus will be performing on the Brewery Arts Steinway grand piano.

Radical Steps, a salsa band from Queen Elizabeth School, Kirkby Lonsdale are delighted to be playing at Brewery Arts, Kendal.

The original band was set up about five years ago and although the collective supporting this event features some of our older players, it is a relatively new band. The group specialise in Latin music, particularly classic salsa numbers, as well as writing their own Latin-inspired numbers. Their performance will include two original compositions – Caracus, a hard-driving salsa montuno as well as Midnight Sun, a relaxed son-like number.

The ensemble regularly appear at the Music for Youth National finals in Birmingham each summer, and previous bands have played at the NASUWT National Conference in Liverpool as well as at the Music for Youth National finals at the Royal Albert Hall, London.

The band last appeared at Brewery Arts supporting Cuban superstar Roberto Fonseca and two of this event’s line-up appeared with Yolanda Brown and her band earlier in 2023.

This will be the final performance for this particular band before some of the members leave for pastures new having reached the end of their time at Queen Elizabeth School.
