Meet Brewery Arts Members: Peter, Ginny & Monica

Published on 23rd September 2025

At Brewery Arts, we strive to ensure that our supporters have the best possible experience with us. Over the past few weeks, we’ve been chatting with some of our Brewery Members, including Peter, Ginny and Monica.

What do you think about Brewery Arts in general?

Peter: Oh, I think it’s fantastic. I think it really enriches Kendal. I mean, if you imagine Kendal without Brewery Arts, which is what I grew up in. Brewery Arts didn’t exist until the end of my school days, and the lack of venues, the lack of spaces where you could either come for a drink or bite to eat, that’s not a pub, that’s something else going on. I think it’s a fantastic thing, which is why I became a member.

Ginny: It’s a great centre, very friendly style. And the activity for the older people I’m finding useful and of excellent quality.

Monica: I would be devastated to lose it. Yeah. So, if there was any, ever any danger, and we were asked to support more, we would. But, I mean, you know, we sometimes do come two or three times a week, so we’re doing quite a lot of supporting. But it’s film, mainly.

Why did you join Brewery Arts Membership?

Peter: My life is such that I have two adult children, both of whom live abroad, and so, I’m travelling an awful lot. But one reason I joined was obviously that there are good things going on, so when I’m here, I can take part, but also because it’s something really worthy of support if you’re a Kendalian, I am.

Ginny: The only reason I joined was to get 48-hour priority booking for a couple of Creative Learning classes because that’s what everybody else was doing.

Monica: I think coming new to Kendal, which was 2013, wanting to support this and the Abbot Hall. Um… you know it’s on our doorstep.

What kind of things do you/will you come and see?

Peter: Live music, live drama, talks, perhaps the Mountain Festival stuff. I can imagine myself coming to that sort of thing. Literary talks and so on. I did think there’s a club linked to the cinema, people who can come and see a film and then they discuss it afterwards. That’s something I might actually take part in.

Ginny: I’ve been enjoying the storytelling course, a great bunch of people.

Monica: The fact that we’ve got the cinema here with the NT Live is fantastic. We did this London theatre season in November, went to see two very good things. Coming out of the theatre in the West End, crowded pavements, pavements dug up, you know, it was all kind of horrible. So, I know it’s different seeing live streaming from a real live theatre, but it is a fantastic opportunity to see things, so that’s my positive.

What could we do to improve our membership experience?

Peter: Well, I feel as if I’m not taking full advantage of it because I’m away so much and I’ve recently moved, so I’m doing a lot on the house. Whenever my kids and their partners or other people come to visit me, I always look at what’s on at the Brewery Arts.

Ginny: My gut reaction to that question is, there’s not enough live theatre. However, I’ve got involved in some over 60s theatre classes at the Brewery.

Monica: I think it’s probably just about right. So it’s £40, yes. We did talk about whether it would be nice to, after you’ve seen a real, you know, a good meaty film, be able to sit around and talk to other audience members. And of course, that could just happen impromptu in the little cinema.

Many thanks to Peter, Ginny and Monica for taking the time to chat about their membership experience. We’ll be talking to more Brewery Members over the next few months.
