Rachael’s work is primarily about the landscape and how we fit within it, asking questions such as: What is the unseen landscape? What lies beyond the surface and is this where true wilderness is to be found? Is the world perceiving itself through us, as we do through it?
She is interested in the concepts of wilderness and the self, and explores “Landscape”; looking beyond the romanticised commodity, trying to make sense of a more complex, multi dimensional structure and how we really experience the sensuous and animate world.
Working with different media, she attempts to probe beyond the surface of the landscape, to better understand the profound and symbiotic relationship we have with it.
Rachael Kidd was born in Warwickshire in 1991. She studied Fine Art at Newcastle University then lived and worked for four years on the remote Scottish peninsula of Ardnamurchan. Now based in Sheffield, she divides her time between her studio, running and climbing in the Peak District and working as a self-employed gardener.
