Carolyn Crosby, who lives in Kendal, has been a Brewery Arts member for more than two years. We caught up with Carolyn to hear about her experience and what she enjoys most about being a member.
What are the things you come and see most? I like theatre. We come to theatrical things. We’ve been to the sort of school things. So, theatre would be one thing, but we come to music events, cinema. We come here for a drink, you know, we use it. It’s very handy.
Do you eat here sometimes? We’ve eaten a couple of times. In the summer, we came, and sat and ate outside
Do you know, you get a discount?. Yes, I do know that.
So, you visit the cinema? We come to the cinema quite a bit and there’s always something. My husband comes more than me. He’s one of these who likes to just pop across the street if he sees something that he fancies to watch. And it’s great, I like the little one and the bigger one
Have you been to any Live Music Events recently?
I was here on Saturday night for the Joshua Raven concert. There have been some really good music concerts, too.
If we see something that sounds interesting, we’ve never been disappointed. In fact, we’ve been more than happy.
Have you been getting your membership newsletter? Yes, what’s coming on and everything like that, it comes by email, right? Yes that will come to you on the 1st of the month. Right, okay. The 241 offers on tickets. They’ll be in there. Oh, that’s good to know to look out for that.
Have you booked to see anything in the next few months? Yes, I have a son who lives in Japan, and he’s got three children, and the eldest one, who’s 11, is coming over to spend two weeks with us in the summer. She is very into dancing and performing, so I booked one of the summer camps for her and that was good, because I could book it ahead of time with the members priority booking. Yeah. So I’ve got that for her.
It sounds just up her street, and, you know, Obviously, she’s half Japanese, and she speaks Japanese mainly, but she does have enough English to get by with them. It’ll be good for her English and to meet other children here, you know.
Is there anything we can improve with our membership? No, not really. I think maybe, sometimes I’m never sure when I’m booking things for both of us, if we’re getting the discount for both of us, ’cause we’re both members.
Yes, if you’re both members and your accounts are linked up, then you both get the discount if one person’s booking it. It should work fine but any problems let them know at box office.
Did You know our members get exclusive Private View invites to our exhibitions?
Yes, I think we did come to one. I think it was like the local artists. One of our friends, she won the first prize. So, I know we came to that one.
What do you enjoy most about your Brewery Arts Membership?
It’s nice that you save money. But it’s more about Brewery Arts being such a vital thing, that it’s worth supporting, just to make sure it keeps going. When I came on Saturday night, I usually meet, my friend for a drink every now and again. And, you know, I feel so happy when I see it crowded. That’s good, you know, there’s a lot of people here, so that means it’s going keep going, because I think it would just be such a loss to Kendal, if anything.
The building is so perfect, as well. You know, the outside space. It’s just… It really is lovely, you know.
I think people are very surprised about Kendal, because it’s not right in the Lake District. For me, that’s the benefit of it, you know, that it’s not right in the middle of it. But I know most of the shows I’ve been to, the artists, say they’ve never been here before, and what a lovely place it is, and I think it does hit people like that. Just generally, this place and also the town.
My husband did a course of songwriting, the tutor has become a friend since they did the course, but you know, these sort of things, that attracts him. I’m not a course joiner, particularly, but he likes that kind of thing.
We’re very happy. We’re just thankful that Brewery Arts is here offering those things, like coming to a cinema, at the moment, my husband is in America, for three weeks. So I’ve been able to come to the cinema on my own. I don’t feel bothered about doing that. It’s a nice place and its good to get out of the house and see people.
We’re surprised how many people kind of fall into the same category as we do, sort of retired, just moved here, usually. I mean, we were both teachers, a lot of people are retired teachers, and they’re very much involved in the community, that’s a real bonus for us, that we didn’t anticipate.
