The Windermere Children (12A)

Cinema
  • Thursday 14th August 20:00

A special screening to celebrate the 80th Anniversary of the children arriving in Windermere.

This stunning film recounts the true story of a group of young adults rescued from Nazi concentration camps and brought for rehabilitation, on the shores of Lake Windermere, to prepare for a new life in the UK.

We follow this group of orphaned teenagers as they arrive and begin to adjust to their new surroundings, trying to shed the traumatic physical and emotional scars they bear and cope with their terrible losses. What they discover is a deep well of strength fuelled by the profound friendships they make, forming a family bond that will last them a lifetime.

A beautifully made, deeply touching drama with outstanding performances – including cameos from the surviving children of Windermere themselves – this film is also a wonderful reminder of the profound impact of kindness on traumatised, troubled refugees.

Presented in partnership with the Lake District Holocaust Project.
