Smoove & Turrell are a world renowned band hailing from Newcastle upon Tyne in the UK. Their music is born out of what was once the heartland of heavy industry, giving them a raw and unforgettable sound now known as “Northern Funk”. Lead singer John Turrell has been compared to the likes of Paul Weller, Cee Lo Green, Joe Cocker, Michael McDonald and fellow Geordie Eric Burdon but the band as a whole have their own individual take on Soul.
Now currently writing their fifth studio album it’s easy to see how in a world of throw away music Smoove & Turrell have not only endured but have strived to build up a worldwide following.
Their first album ‘Antique Soul’ scored two records of the week on BBC Radio 2 with the singles ‘I Can’t Give You Up’ and ‘Beggarman’. It also provided the band with its first ever national playlist on BBC 6 Music with the track ‘You Don’t Know’.
