Mikey Kenney is a brilliant Liverpool-based fiddler, drawing primarily on his native North West English and Irish heritage but grounded in present-day, urban reality. He is a passionate and well-respected advocate for traditional music.

As evidenced on his latest album, The Reverie Road (Penny Fiddle Records), Kenney’s songwriting is both adventurous and earthbound, with his high lonesome voice exploring sun-drenched Italian vistas, dream worlds and sounds of the city.

Mikey is currently working on a new album, due for release in autumn 2023. With a reputation for making quality music and producing wondrous flourishes of creativity, Kenney is also a multi-talented and in-demand collaborator. He has played as part of Band Of Burns, with BBC 6 Music favourite, Alabaster DePlume, and with Italian singer-songwriter, Vinicio Capossela, and now also plays as part of the electric trio World Turned Upside Down. Mikey is also the Musical Director of the Lancashire Youth Folk Ensemble.

Support comes from Lakeland folk duo Lish, led by Carolyn Francis. Carolyn is known for her work with Lakeland Roots band Striding Edge, and formed community band The Lakeland Fiddlers in 2000. She is joined by her apprentice, Georgie Rix.

“This is magical, medicinal music that defies labels and borders” Liverpool Echo

“Mikey Kenney is an artist for whom music is a calling, not a career choice…a singular and inspiring talent… unfettered by expectations of geography or genre, and a wanderer of worlds both seen and invisible, Kenney is an authentic free spirit”. fRoots
