Femi Kuti and The Positive Force

28th July 2023

Doors 7.30pm | Tickets £25.50 | Malt Room Standing

The indefatigable Femi Kuti never tires of performing his dynamic, colourful shows with committed political messages, whether from his iconic New Afrika Shrine in Lagos or from Brewery Arts in Kendal.

Femi inaugurated the Fela Kuti exhibition in a breathtaking gig at ‘La Philharmonie de Paris’ 2021, before releasing the double album, ‘Legacy+’ on Partisan Records. This album was nominated as Best Global Music Album at the 2022 Grammy Awards, alongside Femi’s single ‘Pà Pá Pà’, which was nominated for Best Global Music Performance.

His latest album ‘Stop The Hate’, together with the very first album ‘For (e) ward’ from his eldest son Made Kuti, radiates the unique Afrobeat sound that Femi has forged throughout his long career, affirming his sharp political convictions.

After fighting for social justice endlessly, it can be difficult to understand where Femi draws his positive energy from. Global Citizen defends the same causes and recently broadcast Femi’s music from The New Afrika Shrine, as part of the 24-hour global concert gifted to the entire planet.

Femi is widely in demand for many collaborations and is known for his projects with Coldplay, the electro music producer Robert Hood, or the French Hip Hop band IAM.

For the happiness of all, Femi and his troupe, The Positive Force, will travel the world throughout 2023 with their new show, promoting Africa at its best and promising a spicy performance full of surprises.

In May 2017, Femi was featured in the Guinness Book of World Records with a single note held on a saxophone at 51 min 35 seconds.
