Once again Kendal hosts the prestigious ‘Craft Market Kendal’ at the Brewery Arts Centre over the weekend of 24th to 26th November 2017. This annual showcase of everything that is outstanding about Cumbrian art and craft will run over three days and will provide the opportunity to buy high quality Christmas gifts at affordable prices for those special people. Organiser and artist Jan Huntley Peace emphasises that this event is much more than an art and craft fair.
‘Craft Market Kendal’ is something special’ says Jan ‘It heralds the start of the Christmas season in South Lakes and is a great place to meet truly talented artists and craftspeople. Exhibitors are all hand-picked for their levels of excellence in their own particular medium or craft. The event provides a fantastic atmosphere of creativity and inspiration supported by live music and seasonal refreshments on Friday evening. Whilst we welcome back regulars such as award winning ceramicist Rebecca Callis and multi-media artists Penny Hunt and Gwen Bainbridge we have many exhibitors joining us for the first time such as Morag Macpherson with her printed textile kimonos and bags, the incredible work of Matt Zonca who bases much of his photographic work on the pinhole camera and Laura Sowerby's intricate botanical printed cushions and lampshades as seen in Country living & Interiors magazines
Jan, who produces beautiful jewellery and delicate porcelain vessels inspired by vintage lace and birds, has worked with Zandra Rhodes, David and Elizabeth Emanuel and Norman Hartnell and is no stranger to local art events.
‘I feel really passionate about showcasing the high quality creative talent in this area’ says Jan. ‘We are all looking for something unique, beautiful and designer-made for gifts especially in the run up to Christmas and we feel that Craft Markey Kendal will cater for all tastes and interests. Meeting and talking with the artists themselves is really special. Included in this years event are designer leatherware from Tony Morgan, handmade books and furniture by Elizabeth & Keith Shorrock and etched plate jewellery and prints by Kendal artist Jamie Barnes.
