Brewery Poets May Reading

Join us for exciting poetry delivered by some extremely talented poets. This month’s reading includes Richard Morwood, Sarah Littlefeather Demick, Sue Vickerman, and Caroline Gilfillan. There will also be a special appearance by the Crikey Aphrodite acapella group!

Richard Morwood was born in London but did most of his growing up in the north-east of Scotland. He’s since lived and worked across the UK until settling down in 2002 on the N Yorks / Lancashire / Cumbrian borders where he started writing. His first pamphlet Look Both Ways and a long poem Towton Field were published with Write Lines Press of Leyland in 2018. Richard is a member of Brewery Poets, Settle Poets and Dove Cottage Poets, and is the Lancaster Poetry Stanza Rep. He is currently working on a first collection.

Sarah Littlefeather Demick is an Ojibwa Indian who was born in Toronto Canada and raised in the UK by adoptive parents. She works as a self-employed respite carer for dementia clients and lives on a farm in Cumbria with her husband. They both do gigs as a folk duo called The Demix. Her second collection of poetry Being The One was published by Naked Eye Publishing in November 2022.

Sue Vickerman’s poems, translations, stories and articles have appeared in amongst others The Guardian, Times Educational Supplement,Poetry Review, The Los Angeles Review, Oxford Poetry and The Shanghai Review. Recent publications include a translation from German of Kathrin Schmidt’s story collection ‘It’s over. Don’t go there.’ and a collection of translated poems by the same author. Sue edits for Naked Eye Publishing, has five poetry and four prose publications in print and is just finishing her second novel.

Caroline Gilfillan has published five collections of poetry. She won the Yeovil Poetry Prize in 2019, and her collection Yes, was judged best poetry book in the East Anglian Awards. Her latest collection Hail Sisters of the Revolution, with photographs by Andrew Scott, was published in September 2022. She’s also a novelist and songwriter.

Crikey Aphrodite are a female acapella group – four women who offer their own versions of soul classics and original songs.
