ANGRY SQUAD: The Civil Servant and the Seven Swindlers (15)

Japan Foundation Touring Film Programme 2026
  • Saturday 28th February 17:00

Straight-laced tax office employee KUMAZAWA Jiro (UCHINO Seiyo) falls victim to the clever scam of genius con artist HIMURO Makoto (OKADA Masaki), losing a large sum of money. With the help of his friend— a detective — Jiro confronts Makoto, who, instead of returning the money, proposes a deal: if Makoto helps Jiro con a crooked real estate tycoon (OZAWA Yukiyoshi), who evades billions of yen in tax and whom Jiro and his tax office have been unsuccessfully pursuing, Jiro will spare him.

Despite his scruples as an upright public servant and law-abiding citizen, Jiro agrees. Together, they assemble a team of colourful misfits to form the “Angry Squad”, launching a bold and grand mission to reclaim the hidden fortune. However, there is something fishy inside the tax office itself, and Jiro’s long-suppressed feelings begin to resurface…

One Cut of the Dead director UEDA Shinichiro adapts the 2016 Korean drama Squad 38 for the Japanese silver screen — to thrilling and very colourful effect.

Contains mild violence and offensive language.
