Music is one big conversation, and few bands live at the heart of it like An Dannsa Dub.

Born from a love of traditional Scottish folk, dub reggae, and dance music, together they summon the joyous, communal energy of a cèilidh and a sound system session.

An Dannsa Dub’s name comes from the Gaelic for ‘The Dub Dance’, and their sound celebrates the ancient Gaelic and West African rhythms that influenced reggae, which in turn, via sound system culture and dub’s pioneering remixes, produced modern dance music. Their live shows and recordings are a seamless, pulsating fusion of all this and more.

The band brought this unique, unstoppable sound to their recently released debut album, Air An Turas, featuring stacks of exciting collaborations, which will thrill the audience at Brewery Arts in Kendal, as well as throughout the international tour and the UK festival circuit.

They have previously performed for a 10,000-strong crowd at Boomtown Fair and have headlined a sold-out show at Celtic Connections, the UK’s premier Celtic music festival.

2021’s self-titled EP ‘An Dannsa Dub’ brought the group worldwide acclaim. The release has been played on BBC 6 Music, BBC Radio Nan Gàidheal and BBC Scotland. It’s been supported by Don Letts, who included it in his ‘Best Of 22’, as well as Tom Robinson, Mungo’s Hi Fi, and OBF.

“The roots of folk and dub are deeply intertwined. An Dannsa succeeds in capturing the best of each tradition in a thoroughly original and exciting manner.” Mungos Hi Fi

“Summer vibes and it’s not even warm yet! Nice. This is quite a mix, as it combines folk music with reggae!” Tom Robinson (BBC Radio) Golden Thread Single Release Review from ‘Fresh On The Net’

“I’ve spun your record round and it’s great. It has the things I like, charm and character and does not sound like a pale copy of anything else. Well done” Adrian Sherwood (On U Sound)

Steve Jarvis
