Join our Club
From boundary-pushing jazz and stand-up comedy to spoken word and poetry, we’re shining a spotlight on our growing series of intimate live nights – celebrating emerging talent, community and unforgettable experiences in the heart of Kendal.
Taking place in the welcoming surroundings of the Malt Room, these live events bring together cabaret-style seating, up-close performances and hand-delivered pizzas across three distinct nights: Jazz Club, Comedy Club and Poetry Club.
Whether you’re discovering your next favourite jazz musician, laughing along with some of the UK’s best comedians, or soaking up an evening of spoken word and poetry, our live nights are designed to offer more than just a performance – they’re a full night out experience.
Best of all, Brewery Arts Members receive 2-for-1 tickets across all three events. Not already a member? Join our membership and receive discounts across all our live events, cinema and food and drink.

A growing live series
Over recent years, our live nights have steadily built dedicated audiences and become an important part of Kendal’s arts scene – creating space for emerging performers across music, comedy and spoken word.
Jazz Club has quickly become one of our most exciting and fast-growing live music nights since launching last year, celebrating the new wave of contemporary UK jazz and introducing Kendal audiences to boundary-pushing emerging artists.
Charlotte, Programming Manager at Brewery Arts, said:
“Over the past decade, I’ve loved seeing artists like Nubya Garcia, Ezra Collective and Yussef Dayes reinvent jazz with such fearless creativity. It inspired us to bring Jazz Club to Brewery Arts – a space to celebrate this movement and support emerging artists who are pushing boundaries and shaping the future of jazz.”
Comedy Club, our longest-running night, has been entertaining audiences at Brewery Arts for over 15 years with its ever-popular mix of established and up-and-coming comedians from across the UK stand-up circuit.
Mark Makin, who curates the Comedy Club line-ups, said:
“It’s a total treat to book the line-ups for the stand-up comedy clubs for our friends at Brewery Arts.
The acts are looked after so well, the tech is always spot on, they play to capacity audiences and our comedians love this special gig so much that I regularly get post-show feedback on how much fun they’ve had and asking when they can go back.”
Poetry Club, the newest addition to the programme, grew out of Verbalise – one of our most-loved community events, where emerging voices share the stage with world-renowned artists.

Jazz Club returns this June
Jazz Club returns on 11 June with a performance from Tomorrow’s New Quartet – a collective featuring some of the UK’s most promising young jazz musicians: Tom Smith, Sam Watts, Flo Moore and Rod Oughton.
Their debut album, released on the Ubuntu Music label in 2022, was named Editor’s Choice by Jazzwise Magazine.
The band said:
“We’re super excited to be performing at the club, especially as it’s our first time playing in Kendal. We’ve heard great things from peers about the space and the audience so we’re very much looking forward to it. We hope it’s going to be a great night!”
Head down early and tuck into our special Jazz Club menu – featuring fresh stone-baked pizzas and hand-selected wines, with pizzas available for just £10 when pre-ordered with tickets.

Poetry, conversation and community
At the heart of the programme is a sense of warmth, creativity and connection – creating relaxed spaces where audiences and artists can come together to share ideas, stories and performances.
Guest poet David Viney said of Poetry Club:
“I’d like them [the audience] to feel like it’s a warm evening, a celebration of poetry … with it being a new format I hope there is that real buzz; there’s loads of talking afterwards and everyone is having a good time.”
Ann Grant, Poetry Club & Verbalise Facilitator, added:
“Following the success of Verbalise, we’ve introduced Poetry Club to the programme. The Malt Room format allows us to experiment more with the timings and offer, and also enables us to introduce UK-renowned spoken word artists like David Viney to a wider audience.”
