In 2018 the Brewery was chosen to take part in Artichoke’s national project PROCESSIONS, celebrating one hundred years of votes for women. One hundred artists and organisations were commissioned to create banners to be displayed in processions in London, Belfast, Cardiff and Edinburgh.

Textile artist Kate Reid worked alongside spoken-word artist Ann Grant and local contributors to create the Brewery’s powerful banner, ‘Woman Up and Roar’. This Lake District inspired piece reads “You stand on Helvellyn and scream for your soul, it echoes right back and stays there”, paying tribute to the strong women of our local area.

Following its Edinburgh debut, the Brewery’s creation can be seen in the new book, Women Making History: Processions The Banners, as featured in The Guardian. The book documents all the banners crafted for the PROCESSIONS project and is available to purchase from September 2020.
