Published on 21st May 2026

This June, celebrate Kendal Pride through our colourful programme of live music, cinema, spoken word and performance. Come together and experience powerful performances, queer storytelling on screen and stage, and unforgettable live music celebrating LGBTQ+ voices, stories and creativity in all its forms.

Join us to begin your Kendal Pride celebrations with Act Your Age Presents: Glide into Pride (10 June) Presented by our very own in-house community theatre group, we invite audiences to settle in for a relaxed and uplifting gathering of spoken word, poetry, sketches and extracts from queer literature — from Oscar Wilde and Quentin Crisp to Kae Tempest. Alongside these iconic voices are personal stories from queer people in Kendal, sharing experiences that are heartfelt, humorous and deeply local.
The evening concludes with a disco — the perfect pre-Pride celebration.

For cinema lovers, every Tuesday throughout June becomes part of the Kendal Pride celebrations as our much-loved Cinema Rewind series partners with Kendal Pride for a season of iconic LGBTQ+ films.

Each screening is paired with a specially selected LGBTQ+ themed short film, creating evenings that celebrate queer storytelling, identity and the power of cinema to connect audiences.

The season opens with The Birdcage, (2 June) the much-loved comedy starring Robin Williams and Nathan Lane, where Armand and Albert’s flamboyant Miami lifestyle is thrown into chaos when a conservative senator’s family comes to dinner. The screening is preceded by the short film Meat Raffle and followed by a Q&A with director Stuart Armstrong.

Academy Award winner Moonlight (9 June) offers a deeply moving story of identity, connection and self-discovery, charting the life of a young Black man from childhood through to adulthood. The evening also includes the short film We’ll Go Down In History.

Park Chan-wook’s critically acclaimed psychological thriller The Handmaiden (16 June) follows a woman hired as handmaiden to a Japanese heiress who becomes entangled in a complex plot of deception and desire. Screened in Korean and Japanese with English subtitles, the film is preceded by an LGBTQ+ themed short film.

The season concludes with Hedwig and the Angry Inch (23 June) based on the acclaimed off-Broadway rock theatre hit. Following the story of the “internationally ignored” rock singer Hedwig and her search for love, identity and stardom, the screening is preceded by the short film Once Upon A Time In The Northwest.
