We are looking for 3 apprentice actors for our forthcoming production of Ruby by Kevin Dyer touring to schools across South Cumbria 23rd April-4th May 2018.

Applied Theatre in Cumbria is a two year partnership project between South Lakeland District Council and Brewery Arts Centre funded through Curious Minds, South Cumbria Community Safety Partnership, Cumbria Police and Crime Commissioner and South Lakeland Health and Wellbeing Forum.

For the first year we are looking for 3 enthusiastic, talented and committed young actors to perform in a brand new piece of theatre created specifically for this project. Ruby, written and directed by Kevin Dyer, will tour to schools across South Cumbria in April and May 2018. This beautifully written and fast paced play follows a day in the life of a young woman as she battles to deal with her anxiety. Kevin has written over 50 commissioned plays including for the Dukes Theatre in Lancaster, Dundee Rep and Polka Theatre in London.  He is the Associate Writer at Action Transport Theatre.

You must:

  • Be aged between 16-23
  • Have acting/performing experience at ‘A’, BTEC or graduate level
  • Be available for audition on Thursday Feb 15th 2018 10am-3pm at Brewery Arts Centre
  • Be available for the following rehearsal dates:
Thurs 1st-Sat 3rd March Afternoon and evening
Sun 4th March Daytime
Sat 17th and Sun 18th March Daytime
Sat 7th April 2-5pm
Mon 9th-Fri 13th April Daytime
Mon 16th-Fri 20th April Daytime

 

  • Be available for evaluation w/b 7th May (date and time to be confirmed)
  • Be prepared to work towards a Gold Arts Award

Performances will take place in secondary schools across South Cumbria so will, therefore, be during the day. In addition there will be 1 live streamed performance at Brewery Arts Centre on May 4th

Performance dates are Monday April 23rd to Friday May 4th

You will be contracted as an apprentice actor and will receive remuneration of £250 per week for 5 weeks. You will also receive a per diem payment to cover the cost of food whilst on tour and transport to the schools will be provided.

For audition you will need to prepare a short contemporary piece, no longer than 2 minutes, which breaks the fourth wall.
