Brewery Youth Dancers Shine at the UVHS Primary Dance Platform

Published on 27th February 2026

This month, our talented BYD 7–11 group took to the stage at the annual UVHS Primary Dance Platform, held at Ulverston Victoria High School. The event, hosted by the school, brought together a range of local primary schools and youth dance groups to celebrate creativity and performance — and our dancers were thrilled to be invited to perform.

From Poem to Performance

Over the past term, in weekly classes led by experienced Dance Artist Emily Davies, the group has worked incredibly hard to create and develop a dance piece to showcase on stage. Their dedication, focus, and growing confidence shone through, alongside their enthusiasm and love for dance.

The young dancers performed their piece titled ‘Growing Garden’. The choreography drew inspiration from our local heritage, particularly the poem “We Have a Little Garden” by Beatrix Potter.

We Have a Little Garden

We have a little garden,
A garden of our own,
And every day we water there
The seeds that we have sown.

We love our little garden,
And tend it with such care,
You will not find a faded leaf
Or blighted blossom there.

Drawing on themes of nurturing, growth, and care, the dancers explored how something small can flourish — a lovely reflection of their own journey as young performers. Through thoughtful movement and expressive performance, they brought the poem to life on stage.

A Valuable Stage Experience

The event provided a fantastic opportunity for the group to share their work outside of Brewery Arts and gain valuable experience performing in a different venue. The dancers took part in a technical rehearsal, where they practised their piece with full lighting and sound — an exciting and important part of the performance process. They were incredibly professional throughout the event, demonstrating focus, maturity, and teamwork. Their final performance was strong and confident, and we couldn’t have been prouder of how they represented Brewery Arts.

It was also wonderful to see parents in the audience, coming along to show their support. The group enjoyed watching a wide range of work from other local schools and youth groups, gaining inspiration from our community.

We were delighted to receive some fantastic feedback from staff at Ulverston Victoria High School, who were particularly impressed by how capable and composed the dancers were — especially given their age.

What’s Next?

The dancer’s journey doesn’t stop here! The group will be performing a further developed version of ‘Growing Garden’ at our Schools Dance Platform in March, and we’re excited to see how the piece continues to blossom.
