Bringing the hottest music from around the world to Kendal this May-July!

From Afro-Chilean big bands to US indie-pop sensations, celtic folk, ska and modernist jazz, the most exciting live music from around the world lights up Cumbria this summer.

Brewery Arts Jazz Club ft. Nonunonu

Thursday 5 June
Brewery Arts’ brand new jazz programme celebrates the UK’s best-emerging jazz talent. This launch edition features a live set from Manchester nu-jazz fusion group Nonunonu. Their sound is a blend of intricate compositions and electrifying improvisation.

Flook

Friday 6 June
Flute-driven instrumental quartet perform songs from their brand-new album ‘Sanju’.

There is an ever-present abundance of individual virtuosity amongst Flook’s four members. There is also something wholly unique when this iconic Anglo-Irish band steps on stage together. Their playing always an intuitive, almost symbiotic, exchange between the various flutes, whistles, frets and skins.

Twin Atlantic

Friday 13 June
Twin Atlantic are Sam McTrusty, Ross McNae, Barry McKenna & Craig Kneale. The soaring Scottish rock outfit that traffics in all the elements of alternative music.
They emerged in 2009 and found mainstream success with their gold-selling sophomore effort Free. Since then, the band has remained active on the UK charts for over a decade; issuing acclaimed efforts like The Great Divide (2014), GLA (2016), Power (2020), Transparency (2022) and Meltdown (2024) that skilfully walk the line between pained and majestic.

The Specials Ltd

Saturday 14 June
Celebrate the 45th anniversary of the Specials’ classic #1 single ‘Too Much Too Young’ with one of the best tributes to the pioneering UK two-tone ska band. The Specials Ltd are a nine-piece group that faithfully recreate the high energy of the Specials’ unique rhythm and live performance style.

Neil Cowley Trio

Thursday 19 June
After a seven-year hiatus, one of the most groundbreaking names in contemporary jazz is back together performing live in celebration of their new LP, Entity.
Defined by stadium-sized piano riffs, whimsical romps and poignant passages, the trio redefined the jazz piano trio format. This succeeded across six acclaimed albums over 12 years while building an army of loyal fans.

Newen Afrobeat

Saturday 21 June
Newen Afrobeat are a pioneering Afrobeat band hailing from Chile. Their influences were born in the late 60’s in Nigeria, by legends of the genre Fela Kuti and Tony Allen. With 15 years’ experience, the band have toured the globe performing their unique afrobeat sound at global music and jazz venues and festivals. Festivals include Womad, Womex, Felabration Nigeria and Montreal Jazz Festival. As well as touring over 20 countries across Latin America, North America, Africa and Europe.

The Wandering Hearts

Wednesday 25 June
The americana-inspired folk-rock group play new acoustic arrangements of their most loved songs mixed in with new originals as well as their own versions of their personal favourite songs. They will also offer a sneak peek at tunes from their new album, “Déjà vu – We Have All Been Here Before”. This is a re-recording of the classic Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young record of 1970.

Hannah Rarity

Saturday 28 June
A celebrated Scottish folk singer, Hannah’s albums ‘Neath the Gloaming Star’ and ‘To Have You Near’, have earned critical acclaim and award nominations. Renowned for her ethereal voice, she effortlessly blends traditional, contemporary, and original music. As the 2018 BBC Young Traditional Musician of the Year, she’s collaborated with leading folk acts like Blazin’ Fiddles and Rura.

Joan As Police Woman

Saturday 26 July
American songwriter Joan As Police Woman plays key songs from throughout her career alongside music from her latest album, Lemons, Limes & Orchids. Known around the world as an indie sensation, this new record sees Joan venture deeper into her jazz influences with further affectations associated with electronic and ambient music.

Peatbog Faeries

Thursday 31 July
Peatbog Faeries hail from the Isle of Skye. They have created a glorious mixture of traditional sounds and dancefloor grooves that have been embraced worldwide. They draw upon a dazzling myriad of influences from jigs and reels to dance music, jazz, African music and more. Bringing the sound of Scotland fresh-faced and breathless to new audiences around the world. Their mainly instrumental music allows the band to develop exciting themes and soundscapes. As well as locking into their trademark hypnotic sound that no one can resist dancing to.
