An evening of conversation, career reflections and unforgettable moments with Alison Steadman
We are thrilled to announce a very special fundraiser event at Brewery Arts on Friday 20 March, starring the extraordinary Alison Steadman OBE, live in conversation with acclaimed director Christine Gernon.
Join one of Britain’s most beloved and respected performers for a joy-filled, unmissable evening of stories, anecdotes and behind-the-scenes insights from a remarkable career spanning stage and screen.
Best known for iconic roles in Abigail’s Party and Gavin & Stacey, Alison Steadman has worked extensively with director Mike Leigh on celebrated productions including Nuts in May, Life Is Sweet and Topsy-Turvy. Her acclaimed career has seen her twice nominated for BAFTAs, win the Olivier Award for Best Actress for The Rise and Fall of Little Voice, and receive the US National Society of Film Critics Award for Best Actress. Appointed an OBE in 2000, Alison continues to captivate audiences – most recently appearing in the 2024 feature film Better Man and reprising her role as Pamela in the record-breaking Gavin & Stacey Christmas finale.
Guiding the evening’s conversation will be Christine Gernon, one of the most successful comedy directors of the last two decades. Christine has directed landmark series including the BAFTA award-winning One Foot In The Grave, Absolutely Fabulous and Gavin & Stacey. Her work in the US includes New Girl, Blackish, Superstore, The Goldbergs, Speechless, and the hugely popular US version of Ghosts. Most recently, she directed and executive-produced Gavin & Stacey: The Finale (Christmas 2024), which broke narrative viewing records and has been watched by almost 20 million people to date.
Hosted by our CEO Miriam Randall, and Board Member Charlie Pattinson, this special event is a fundraiser for Brewery Arts. All proceeds will contribute towards Brewery Arts’ charitable activities in youth and community engagement. By attending, you will be helping to ensure that we remain a vibrant creative hub, supporting artists, audiences and the next generation of talent across Cumbria.
Whether you are a lifelong fan, a lover of British theatre and television, or simply want to support the future of the arts in Cumbria, this promises to be a truly special evening.
