New series of live streamed concerts launches with reggae and afro-jazz

Africa in the Lounge returns for another series of concerts drawing on musical traditions from across Africa. The next shows will be streamed live on Youtube and Facebook from Ooosh! studios in Brighton, on 23 and 30 April.

The concerts presented by African Night Fever, Yaram Arts, Brighton Dome, and Bristol Beacon, feature feel-good reggae from Gregory Fabulous and Tuffwise, and Afro-jazz with a big band sound from Nubiyan Twist.

African Night Fever has been bringing the best musicians from Africa and the African dias- pora to audiences in Brighton and beyond for over 15 years. Yaram Arts is the UK’s leading music development agency specialising in African artists. Africa in the Lounge has show- cased music from across the continent over 12 concerts to date. The shows attracted live audiences of 1000 and have now been watched over 7000 times.

Now they are joined by partners Brighton Dome and Bristol Beacon for this third series of live streamed concerts.

The livestreams can be watched on Brewery Art’s Youtube channel, alternatively, they can be accessed at facebook.com/africannightfever, at africannightfever.co.uk or on African Night Fever’s Youtube channel. The concerts are free to watch, though donations are welcome.

Nubiyan Twist are a UK Afro-Jazz 9-piece band led by Tom Excell, fusing groove driven music with sound system culture and improvisation.

Their infectious style draws on jazz, hip-hop, Afrobeat, latin, soul, reggae and dance music, blending ultra-tight musicianship with a powerful big band sound.

Their fans include Mary Ann Hobbs, Gilles Peterson, Huey Morgan, David Rodigan, Craig Charles and David Byrne who chose the band for his Meltdown festival at Southbank Cen- tre.

Nubiyan Twist released their second album Freedom Fables 12 March 2021 to a series of great reviews, with single “If I Know” playlisted on BBC Radio 6 Music.
