A brilliant ensemble piece set in the living room of Horace and Ethel Cole in Brixton, London, on the day of a general women’s strike called by Suffragettes. All the women who have previously supported themselves agree to leave their jobs and homes and insist on support from their nearest male relative. As Horace’s female relatives arrive at his house one after the other, he realises something must be done and rushes to Parliament, along with all the other men in London, to demand ‘“Votes for Women” as soon as is humanly possible.’

In 2018 the first female parliamentary candidate for Westmorland and Lonsdale finds herself the victim of sexism, internet trolling and death threats: should she be intimidated or go on the attack? On the centenary of the suffrage act, Emily Unia’s play Big Fat Pig explores how far we’ve come on equality and whether, ‘Deeds not words’ should once again be our watchword, “…we were violent then we can be violent again?”
