Willow Tipis For Your Garden Climbers

Art & Crafts |
14th March 2020

14 Mar | 10.30am-5.30pm | Tutor Hannah Ehlert | £69

Willow tipis set delightful vertical accents to your garden, whilst being versatile and practical. The day will teach you some traditional principles of willow and hedgerow weaving. Just in time for your flourishing summer garden, you will learn to make a willow tipi structure you can be proud of.

What will the course or workshop cover and how will it be taught?

These structures are beautiful, and useful to support roses or climbing annuals, beans etc. There will also be time to get advice on how to use willow in the garden for in-situ hurdles, perennial wreaths, edge borders, hearts and other projects, and samples to get inspired by.
No previous experience is required. Suitable for beginners or intermediates.

Students should be able to have full use of both arms and hands. People with severely strained wrists or hands might struggle with effort it takes to weave bigger withies.

The course will be taught in a mixture of demonstration and application in the group.
You will learn some basic principles of successfully using willow and other pliable hedgerow material for weaving. There will be a section where we can talk through how to use willow in your garden for in-situ hurdles, borders, compost containers, perennial supports and other projects.

Expect to go home with your own willow garden tipi and possibly- if time allows- a smaller object such as a wreath/perennial support.

What do I need to bring with me?

Please bring a pen, notebook and your glasses, if you need them. If you have a pair of sharp secateurs, feel free to bring them along.

Are there any additional costs?

All tools and materials are included in the workshop fee.
