Join us for Verbalise Live or on Zoom for our spoken word open mic night with guest writer Simon Kurt Unsworth. Sign up and take part or sit back and enjoy a feast of words.
This month our guest is the perfect choice for Halloween as he writes ghost and horror stories. Simon Kurt Unsworth was born in Manchester and has achieved great success in the art of short story writing, having been published widely and nominated for both the World Fantasy Award and Edge Hill Short Story Collection prize.
His novels The Devil’s Detective and The Devil’s Evidence, published between 2015-16, offer a fantastic twist on horror and noir fiction that is ‘Dark and luminous, compelling and insidious‘ and ‘transcends genre’ (Michael Marshall Smith). Both books are available on audiobook format as well as from all good bookshops. If you head to Waterstones in Kendal you could buy a copy from the author himself. I’m sure you could also buy a copy at this event. Simon will read to us for around 25-30 minutes. Please email annthepoet@gmail.com to book your open mic spot of up to 4 mins including introductions. Please include your poems/stories typed in ONE Word document or in the body of the email, so this can be screen shared during your performance. Please state if you will be attending live or on Zoom.
Zoom attendees – please be prepared to stay in the waiting room while live attendees are welcomed.
Live attendees – please purchase your drinks at the bar in the main building.
Covid safety – If there is a sharp increase in local Covid 19 figures this event may change to Zoom only, the decision will be made no later than Thursday 28 October.
