Upholstery Spring School – 2 Days

Give that threadbare chair a bit of TLC! This intensive 2-day course will cover reupholstering a drop in seat or stall following the basics traditional upholstery methods including the correct use of tools and fabric, plus skills such as traditional webbing, stuffing and stitching techniques.

What will the course or workshop cover and how will it be taught?

During the course you will learn:
• the basic principles of upholstery depending on what furniture you work on; webbing, stuffing, re-covering.
• you will learn about upholstery tools and sundries.
• measuring up and cutting out of fabric

The course is aimed at a beginner or someone who would like to learn traditional upholstery skills.
Your tutor will discuss the course content with the class and may make some adjustments to the syllabus based on the needs of the group. She will also try to accommodate individual requirements where possible.

The project you choose will need to be small and achievable. If unsure, please contact the tutor via the Brewery Arts Centre.

What do I need to bring with me?
The course includes the use of all the upholstery tools required to reupholster your chair.

You will need to bring a drop-in seat, small stool or chair and top fabric.

If you do not have a chair or fabric, the tutor can supply them for you at additional fee. Please contact the Brewery Arts Centre at least 2 weeks before the start of the course to notify them of your requirements.
Tea and coffee are also provided.
Please bring a pen, notebook and your glasses, if you need them.

Are there any additional costs?
The course fee includes the cost of the starter kit of material. Additional materials can also be purchased directly from the tutor during the course.

About the tutor
Rachel Cabble runs a successful upholstery business – Killington Upholstery and Textiles Services (KUTS). Rachel is passionate about all things furniture and she is also co-owner of Cable and Blake ‘Fabrics of the Lakes’ which design create and sell woollen fabrics and accessories, that have been inspired by the surrounding Lakeland landscape.
