Art & Crafts Start Drawing With Charcoal

Mon 15 March | 6.30-8pm | Age 16+ | Tutor Karen Lester

Create wonderful lights and darks in your drawings using soft willow charcoal. In this introductory drawing session, try some quick drawing exercises and then using still life subjects, start to really observe the tonal range of colours to recreate three dimensional forms. A relaxed session, suitable for all, including complete beginners.

Important Information

You will need access to the internet and Zoom. The Zoom link, meeting ID and passcode will be on your e-ticket, this will be emailed to you after booking.

What do I need?

Willow charcoal – medium sizes -Putty rubber -Sheets of cartridge paper – A3 size is good -Kitchen roll -Charcoal is messy so you might want to consider protecting your work surface and your clothes! -Gather some objects from your house eg. fruit, vegetables, ornaments.

Keep to simple shapes but have a selection of darker and lighter objects

About the tutor

Karen enjoys working with a range of painting and drawing media, including printmaking, sometimes combining these to create mixed media images.

Each type of medium brings its own exciting possibilities and unique qualities, something she continually explores. Her work has been exhibited in galleries in Cumbria and Lancashire over the last 25 years and she has been involved with projects including Printfest and C-Art and runs occasional print workshops for the National Trust at Allan Bank, Grasmere as well as for private groups. Karen is an experienced qualified teacher
