Silk Painting And Batik

Art & Crafts |
24th September 2020

Thu 24 Sept to Thu 22 Oct 2020 | 11.30am-1.30pm | £72.50 (5 weeks) | Tutor Caren Threlfall

During this short creative course, you will learn everything involved in creating beautiful vibrant images on silk. You will learn all the techniques in order to create your own pieces, using vibrantly coloured paints, dyes, resists, and foils to finish and embellish your pieces.

What will the course or workshop cover and how will it be taught?

Learn how to prepare your silk for painting before moving on to experimenting with different painting techniques. The tutor will demonstrate a technique, before you have a go yourself with the tutor always on hand for help and advice.

You will learn how to use ‘gutta’ resists and hot wax in order to create batiks, colour mixing and how to present your finished pieces with foil embellishments. You will be encouraged to be creative, thinking about composition and colour, but most of all you will be encouraged to experiment. By the end of the course you will have a series of samples and finished pieces.

What do I need to bring with me?

In order to minimise sharing of equipment, please bring with you each week:

  • pens and pencils
  • a selection of paint brushes in various sizes
  • a small plastic paint palette which can be purchased quite cheaply from most art shops.
  • apron or over shirt to protect your clothing.

The tutor will provide silk and paints which are included in the course fee. You may be asked to bring other items along as the course progresses, but nothing you need to go out and buy!

Are there any additional costs?

No, the course fee includes all materials.
