What will the course or workshop cover and how will it be taught?

This workshop will be of interest to all those who love working with textiles. During this workshop we will cover the different methods of preparing the fabric for dyeing, including traditional Japanese techniques and more random methods. You will learn how to make up the Indigo bath and how to maintain it so that you get the most from it. You will be taught through demonstration, group discussion and handouts that will be provided.

What do I need to bring with me?

  • Needles, threads and sharp scissors.
  • A pair of rubber or latex gloves.
  • Materials to be used for wrapping/tying the fabric e.g. elastic bands, old buttons, bottle tops and corks, bulldog and paper clips.
  • Please wear dark clothes or an art shirt.
  • Gill will bring along cotton samples and a tote bag each to dye, but if you have a white t-shirt or old linens you’d like to revamp or some fabric for a project you’re working on please bring it along.

Are there any additional costs?

None
