Fri 17 Jun | Doors 6pm
The Lake District suffered huge losses and devastation last winter, compounding the damage already wreaked upon it over previous harsh floods.
Every part of the community was affected by road closures and impassable routes forcing residents from their homes and organisations closing doors for business, never knowing if and when they could return.
With tourism as a key source of revenue, the flood impact has seen visitor numbers down by over 40% but that very same community has been slowly rebuilding, re-grouping and re-opening access, supporting one another; the roads that still require re-connecting, those still dislocated from their homes, those businesses that are still struggling and those whose doors have closed permanently.
With summer approaching and maintaining that ongoing support momentum a priority, Rock On Windermere is central to the celebration that “Cumbria is open for business”.
Rock On Windermere’s objective is to attract music fans into the hub of our region, highlighting our community character in fighting against the elements and turning challenge into victory.
We have created the biggest music event the area has seen and set against our unique backdrop of Bowness we aim to show that our legendary hospitality and welcome is as warm as ever and that our excellent, tourist attractions are now open and as always, ready to receive visitors.
Rock On Windermere will take place over the weekend of 17 -19 June 2016. The main focus will be our Saturday event where Status Quo are billed to appear, supported by Toploader and Blues Festival favourite Sean Webster. Friday will provide a gentle lead into the weekend with Gordon Hendricks as Elvis appearing, together with PLATINUM as our live Abba tribute show. Finally on Sunday 19 June we see 10cc performing as our headline act along with a full support programme.
